Situated approximately 2 hours south from Nacala on the Mossuril Pensinsula, lies Coral Lodge 15.41, a modern-African luxury lodge in the heart of Mozambique’s remote and in-tact culture. With modern architecture mixed with local raw materials, Coral Lodge 15.41 recently opened with 10 luxury villas, all ensuite, airconditioned, and include day beds and a minibar.
To fully compliment the exterior design of the Coral Lodge villas, architect Edward van Vliet used a blend of African and modern styles for the furniture that decorates the interior of the villas. The bedrooms have been furnished with the award-winning Evening Breeze bed. These beautifully-designed canopy beds allow for full air-conditioned climate control and provide guests with a superb sleeping experience. And if that wasn’t enough, natural materials were used to manufacture the hardness-adjustable mattresses and cushions. To keep it natural, the windows and shutters have been designed with maximum adjustability in mind so that a gentle breeze can always flow through the rooms.
Coral Lodge 15.41 is built on a privately- owned reserve called Varanda. Varanda is a peninsula with a big Laguna. Through the Laguna the tides offer life to the mangrove forest behind the sand dunes, the breeding ground for many sea creatures. The area is visited by east African birds and is habited by bush babies (small nocturnal primates), monkeys, snakes and mongoose. Explore Varanda by canoe or on foot.
What is Special?
Being the only luxury lodge in the area, Coral Lodge gives clients a great oppertunity to visit some of the cultural highlights of the area whilst staying in upmarket accommodation. Included in the accommodation rate is a guided visit to Ilha de Mozambique, a Unesco World Heritage site and a must see for travellers that enjoy learning more about the history and culture of a country. Other places of interest include the abandoned Governor's Summer Palace and a hauntingly beautiful old church.
The nearest airport is currently Nampula Airport. Road transfers to Ilha de Mozambique take approximately 2 hours. From the island it is a boat transfer across to the Lodge. It is also possible to drive around the bay to the lodge, adding approximately another hour to the journey. What is Special?
Nuarro is one of only two lodges in Mozambique that offers shore access diving. So long boat transfers are not needed for scuba divers to reach beautiful dive spots - they can just walk in from the main beach. As such, great snorkeling is also quite easy to reach. The bay in front of Nuarro is perfect safe haven for whales and their calves. These amazing giants of the ocean can be viewed right from the beach or take a kayak out to view them up close from the safety of the top of the continental shelf.
Nuarro lodge is a rustic eco lodge in a beautiful remote location. There is electricity in the rooms, supplier by solar panels and a generator, but no ceiling fans or air conditioning. The chalets are designed to make maximum benefit of the sea breeze. The bathrooms are en suite with a shower only. The toilet is an eco toilet. A sandy pathway runs behind the chalets that connects the rooms with the activity centre on one end and the restaurant on the other. Not ideal for guests with walking difficulties.
The closest airport at this time is Nampula Airport. It is approximately a 4.5 hour road transfer from the Airport to the Lodge, with the last section over a sand road. It is possible to get a charter flight from the Airport to the Lodge which cuts down on travel time. A new airport is set to open during the second half of 2014 at Nacala which is situated a lot closer to the Lodge and will make for a quicker transfer time by road.
